University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Jazz in June concerts take place every Tuesday evening during the month of June in the Sheldon Sculpture Garden. The free concert series, held each Tuesday in June, will feature two sets of music from 7-7:45 p.m. and 8-8:45 p.m., respectively, with a 15-minute intermission. Beyond the performances, the series will include education outreach coordinated by community centers and artists. A market will offer food and drinks from 5 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday. Bike Valet will provide free, secure parking for bicycles from 5 p.m. until an hour after each concert at the east end of the market.

Return of the THUNDERBIRDS

Join us at the Indian Center, Inc. for this cross-cultural community event celebrating the return of rain, thunder, spring, and bird migration.

This family-fun "something for everyone" event celebrates the time of year many Native peoples give thanks to the Thunder beings for providing rebirth with rain & thunder. It is also a time we celebrate the return of many migratory birds to Nebraska. So Audubon and the Indian Center are celebrating together with music, dance, food, arts, kids games and activities, and much much more.

Figure Drawing Workshop

Join our Artist in Residence, Tom Meyers, every second Friday from 6:30 pm - 9 pm, and fine-tune your figure drawing skills with the company of other art enthusiasts.

This live model workshop is $25 per person and will be held at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. This class is limited in size; attendees must be 18 years old or older to participate. Charcoal and newsprint will be provided for any artist to use.

Tom will give a brief lesson from 6 pm - 6:30 pm for anyone interested.

Spring Creek Prairie Discovery Leader Training

Interested in becoming a Discovery Leader for Spring Creek Prairie? Join us for a free (and fun) training session on Tuesday, April 9, from 12:00-3:30 p.m. We'll provide the training and lunch, you volunteer your time and passion.

Discovery Leaders help lead school and daycare field trips into prairie, woodland, and pond habitats. Our approach to education programs is exploratory, with hands-on investigations and open-ended activities to encourage participants to make observations and come to their own conclusions. Discovery Leaders encourage exploration, model good observational skills, and ask guided questions. Field trips mainly occur spring and fall. Any amount of help is appreciated, from twice a week to twice a month.

The Nebraska Writers Collective presents Lincoln Poetry Slam

The Nebraska Writers Collective is thrilled to announce the Lincoln Poetry Slam, a monthly open mic and poetry slam, held on the second Thursday of every month at Larksong Writers Place.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. We will start at 7 p.m. with an open mic and then the competitive individual slam! (If you plan to compete in the slam, bring three poems.)

There is a $10 suggested donation. 

WANT TO PARTICIPATE? 
Slam performers will have up to three minutes in each round to perform, and will be judged by five audience members on a scale from 0.0-10.0. Top performing poets will move onto the second and third rounds, and the top scorer will walk away with $50! All poems must be performed solo without props, costumes, musical accompaniment, and must consist entirely of the poet’s original words and work.

For the open mic, you can perform either your work or the work of others with attribution. Open mic readers have up to five minutes to perform.

In the interest of creating the most inclusive environment for our all-ages audience, we have a zero tolerance policy for racism, sexism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, religious discrimination, or otherwise harmful writing and performance.

Star Wars: The Orchestra Strikes Back

Frosty Bike Ride

The 2024 Frosty Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

We will begin at White Elm Brewing Co. (720 Van Dorn Street, Lincoln, NE) and ride the trails to the turn around point at TREK Lincoln for a hot chocolate break and then back for lunch, friends & a BIKE GIVEAWAY. Round trip will be approximately 15 miles. Anybody who can ride a bike is welcome to participate in the Frosty Bike Ride. Event will take place regardless of rain or shine. In the event of an extreme blizzard, the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday.

Join us as we enjoy friends, lunch, drinks and your name will be in a drawing for a BIKE!

Nebraska Jazz Orchestra

Featuring Doug Hinrichs and the Young Lions All-Star Band

A specialist in ethnic percussion (Doug studied in Brazil, the island of Guade-loupe, and Trinidad & Tobago), Doug also performs often on drum set, mallet and orchestra percussion, and steel pan. He is the inventor of the One-Handed Triangle, which is manufactured and sold worldwide by LP (Latin Percus-sion). He is an LP, Sabian, and Remo endorser. Doug performs and records with countless artists in the New York City area and beyond and has several Broadway show credits to his name. Doug is perhaps best-known for his work in the musical “In The Heights,” for which he played drums and percus-sion during the show’s developmental years, and held the percussion chair for its full run on Broadway.

Magical Lights of Lincoln

Magical Lights, LLC will be moving its popular holiday lights drive-through show after three years in Seward to Lincoln this holiday season.

The show will be tripled in size to further cement its standing as Nebraska’s largest holiday lights show as it spreads out at the Lancaster Event Center Fairgrounds.

The drive-through show will offer visitors a much richer experience than a traditional holiday light display using the latest in technology to synchronize movement of over 1 million different colored lights to music. 

The show starts at approximately 6 pm nightly and lasts about 20 minutes if driven at a slow & steady pace to fully enjoy the synchronized show.

DAYS:

November 24 - December 31st

HOURS:

6pm - 9pm | Sunday - Thursday

6pm - 10 pm | Friday & Saturday

ADMISSION:

$20 per carload on weekdays (Sunday-Thursday)

$25 on weekends (Friday & Saturday).

Dancing Within the Star City Benefit

The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation (JCMF, www.joshtheotter.org) presents Dancing Within the Star City benefit and features couples performing two dances for the audience and the celebrity judges. In addition to the dancing, the event will feature drinks, appetizers, and a live auction.

The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation was established in honor of Joshua Collingsworth and to educate children and adults worldwide about water safety through the utilization of drowning prevention campaigns and early childhood water safety training. JCMF aims to eliminate drowning through water safety education and awareness by fostering a generational change in the way children and adults perceive bodies of water.

Capital Humane Society serves the Lincoln community by sheltering homeless pets, advocating for animal welfare, and educating the public about responsible pet care. Putt Putt Fore Puppies will raise funds to help care for homeless animals and help them find their forever homes.

Putt Putt Fore Puppies will help Capital Humane Society cover costs and help as many animals as possible. If you're not able to participate in or sponsor the mini golf tournament, please consider making a donation.

Guardians of Freedom Airshow

Cost: Free

The Guardians of Freedom Air Show in Lincoln is the largest and most popular aviation event in Nebraska. The air show, organized by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, features an impressive lineup of nationally-recognized performers. The show has attracted as many as 300,000 people in two days.

Past performers of the show included the USAF Parachute Team/Wings of Blue, F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, and SHOCKWAVE & Flash Fire Jet Trucks. The main highlight of Lincoln Air Show is the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron of the United States Navy.

In addition to military and civilian aerobatic acts, the public can enjoy military and vintage ground displays as well as various entertainment. Admission and parking are free to the public. Viewers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the show.
